First off, my graphics card sucks!

It’s a “legacy” Nvidia GeForce MX 440, if you know what I mean, and if not, suffice it to say it is old and barely usable for SL, and causes me anguish.
For example, while katana-fighting, I hear the horrid sound of my arm being cut off and the goosh of the blood spurting out seconds before I can see a sword coming down on me! That’s no way to win a fight.
And every time I want to take a photo for SLBuzz, I have to Edit-Preferences and change all my graphics settings, or else the shot will look like crap. Add lag and low RAM, and you can imagine how bloody PAINFUL it can be to function in SL.
So do I try to upgrade a 3.5 year-old computer, or do I wait and buy or build a new machine?
And here’s the rub, I really need a laptop more than a desktop, but won’t SL overheat any laptop I buy unless I’m willing to spend 3000 bucks?
Meanwhile I limp along, chasing the digital crack that is SL, with what feels like one leg and one eye. Poor me.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 (laptop) and it works great - strong fan - I also have the laptop on a glass surface which helps keep it cool - I run SL all day and night.

I’d say build a new one. I’m having a similar issue, still being on an AGP system and new video cards are all PCI-E.

I don’t have a problem with SL on my MacBook Pro. The machine runs hot anyway, but it’s not going to burn out from it.
