Back to the Future?

Posted by Rich Desoto on March 26th, 2007

I revived a very old song today. The lyrics were written in 1996, but seem to be very, very appropriate for the world we live in today. I’ve upgraded the music a bit from the original, but otherwise have maintained the general feel and mood.

I have a live recording of this song from a Second Life performance, but I believe that I’ll “produce” this one a bit before I issue it for podcast play.

The song is called “Future Retrospect“. At this point, all rights reserved. No use allowed without my direct permission. This may change. [wink]

Yesterday’s wheels might still spin around
The winds may carry the sweet old sounds
But changes come and people grow old
And I wonder if there might be more to know

We learn to live life in retrospect
Always deserving what we might get
But when it comes to letting go
I wonder if there might be more for me to know

Won’t you tell me just where the answer lies?
Don’t you tell me the same old tired alibis

The world isn’t the one I woke up in
My awareness seemd so much clearer then

So now I watch the fashions roll back in
The new things are really the same old sins
Kids are talkin’ about peace and love
And their heroes are dying one by one

They say we just don’t understand
The issues where they take a stand
But they don’t know that years before
We were knockin’ down the same big doors

Won’t you tell me just where the answer lies?
Don’t you tell me the same old tired alibis

The world isn’t the one I woke up in
My awareness seemd so much clearer then

I didn’t get to join the summer of love
I watched it through a haze of wanderlust
Consciousness was just a phase of growing up
And wars were fought with soldiers just tryin’ to get a buzz

Don’t you tell me the same old tired alibis
Won’t you tell me just where the answer lies?
