Why do we do what we do...?

You know, people are funny. In real life and second life. We do some of the strangest things for “only god knows” the motivations.

Is it just that we are used to worlds filled with cynicism and untruth. Has the media truly warped our minds? Why is it so hard to be friendly and polite without someone looking for ill will or bad intentions. Does every conversation carry an agenda…and purpose to an end game? And why is it particularly hard to admire someone for being exceptional, and letting them know about it, without receiving a reaction akin to “whoa..what’s going on here.”

I don’t know what has become of us all. We read things into every line, look for hidden meanings and search for the “code” that was spoken (or in SL, typed.) Are we all so burned by those in our past that mislead, that lied, that cheated, that laughed at us…to no longer believe a compliment or an honest expression of admiration or appreciation is just that.

I guess this “thinking out loud” on my part is due to having been on the receiving end of the lies and mischief and now sometimes, I too am cynical and disbelieving. Oh well, they say the first thing one needs to correct fault is to realize the fault. So I for one will continue to compliment the worthy, admire the extraordinary and say a kind word to all.
