SLartist IDOL ....WINNER ....?

Posted by Cienega Soon on February 20th, 2008

Maybe its an empty title, but I think the 24 original contestants did a fantastic job. All the SL screenshot/photo/artwork entries of the artist’s choice, were awesome. I felt like I was in great company and the competition was anyone’s.

Each person in the top 10, ALL talented. The artwork for the 2nd round theme was ‘Friendship’, these SL screenshot/photo/artwork were amazing. I would like to see all of this art in one place because each person brought a different view of friendship with such flare.

Of course it was tough to see the cut to the next round. I felt uneasy still standing, as some great artists didn’t make it through. The 3rd round theme; ‘Still Life’, again these pieces were simply amazing, and should be displayed together as the eye of each artist gave such great insight into their view of color and balance. I loved them all.

The last round took a few delayed hits, as the original people putting on the contest simply quit. Read details here: http://www.slnn.com/index.php?SCREEN=article&about=cienega-soon-wins

After everything was brought to a workable contest again. The last theme ‘Landscape” was finally brought to the SLartist IDOL stage. This was a bit nerve-racking, I guess the few set backs along with the gossip and/or conversations about the whole idea in the first place, put me in a strange position, (at least in my mind). Being the winner of anything makes you different and apart from others in a way you have no control of. Graciously you have to make a choice to just ignore the fuss or the lack there of, of friends saying anything or nothing to you.

I want to be excited about this title, but I know it’s not everyone’s idea of anything of importance. I know there are some that think you can’t make art with SL Screenshots. I know that some are disturbed that Photoshop is used on the SL Screenshots. I know that some will not accept that a screenshot in world can be considered a photo. Well…

For me everything I touch is a canvas to work on. So for me this is just one more medium to add to my ever-changing pile of Artistic Endeavors. I am a sculptor/artist, published writer and singer/songwriter in RL. In SL I am still all those things and I am still ME … no you can not see me or know my RL name or persona but I’m still me, and I am gonna be excited about what SLartist IDOL was meant to be when it started. I thank Kizmit Juran for her excitement in the beginning as well. I was very sad to see her leave SLartist Park.

SLartist IDOL was fun to be a part of. The competition was challenging and in an area I had not entered before.

I loved standing along side all the other talented artists.. Bravo… I was proud to be there with you all!
