Library, Museum, Lectures, Discussions, and Art Gallery Events in Second Life

Posted by ALALibraryVal Miles on November 17th, 2008 (2 days ago)

Since I hear about these events all the time — and I’m not sure how many people outside of the library communities hear about them — I’ve started a public Google Calendar of library events that are open to the public:

Fishing at Nippon (11/09/2008)

Posted by Kabalyero Kidd on November 14th, 2008 (6 days ago)

Today I was able to enter Nippon’s weekly 7Seas Fishing Contest. Fortunately, I wasn’t doing anything important which allowed me to spare sometime to go fishing. I don’t enter that many fishing contests these days because of my new real life work and the competition now is very tough. That’s why I just do most of my fishing at home. In fact, if you come visit my place, 3 Stars and a Sun, you’ll be able to get some 7Seas Fishes and Gears for FREE.

I went immediately to Nippon after getting the group notice. I was in such a haste that I was not able to change to my fishing outfit. I went there wearing my Gladiator outfit complete with DCS Meter and swords. The only thing I wore when I got there was my Phantom Fishing Rod and to make it more weirder, I drew my Hellfire sword and kinda used it like a fishing rod. So, I was in Nippon in my Gladiator outfit with my DCS meter and Roman tag active fishing with my Hellfire sword. LOL! […continue reading Fishing at Nippon (11/09/2008)]

I must be mad! Answers on a postcard please :-)

Posted by Vicky Jayaram on November 11th, 2008 (9 days ago)

Okay, so here’s a sign of advancing madness.

I was sitting high above Collina the other day working on some new stools for the bar area (full of nice stool type animations!) when a message popped up to say a store was available to rent in Tombstone Winslow… Fantastic, I thought, finally an excuse to make lots of older themed things!

I don’t know about anyone else, but I have just about stopped using this feature on SLBuzz.

Why? because the same ads show for days, while other events with more current information can only be seen by clicking through and searching.

The Castle in Flames

Posted by Kabalyero Kidd on November 9th, 2008 (11 days ago)

Last week after raiding the land called Scythia, the King of Medieval England returned home to find his Castle in flames. The King and the citizens of Medieval England can do nothing except watch the flames as it engulfs the entire Castle. The flames were so big that it can be seen at a very far distance, even as far a the wharf.

If my understanding is correct, the flames were started by Scythians who sneaked inside Medieval England’s defenses while everyone were busy raiding their home land, Scythia. This terroristic act angered the King of Medieval England and immediately ordered a second raid on Scythia. […continue reading The Castle in Flames]

What I think...

Posted by Jaymes Kjeller on November 7th, 2008 (12 days ago)

It’s been around for 5 years, and I know I’m as guilty as the next resident for moaning about its faults. I know it’s pretty much out-of-date in most things, but, it’s our own world. We, both Residents and Lindens, built this world from nothing, and I belive it’s one of the best worlds you could visit.

Okay, maybe the Lindens did some silly things, and maybe it’s not as stable as anyone would like it, but I’m fairly confident that nowhere else has their creators jumping on once a week to talk to their users.

Is True Love a Reality in Second Life?

Posted by Darrin2101 Aeon on November 7th, 2008 (13 days ago)

We all know Metaverses such as Second Life are an excellent way to meet new people from all corners of the world and hopefully become friends with them. This is in no way something that has just become a reality with the technological advances of the last 20 years. Back in the days when your telephone line had nothing but a telephone plugged into it people used to reach out across the globe by becoming pen pals. For those of you too young to remember this, the concept was simple. You registered with an Agency, gave them a few details about yourself and they matched you up with someone that you could send letters to in the hope that they would reciprocate. Having the international postal infrastructure to contend with meant that conversations could easily take months, but, despite that friendships became stronger, feelings became deeper and eventually people fell in love, got married, had kids and lived happily ever after.

Now, apart from maybe the occasional “thank you” note to an Auntie who has only just made the quantum leap in technology to colour TV, we all rely on the internet for pretty much all of our communications. Getting in touch and keeping in touch with people has never been easier. However e-mail, IM and VoIP solutions are already looking a bit antiquated when compared to the social interaction offered in a 3D, free-roaming environment such as SL. Now you can wander into a club, bust your best moves and be chatting to people from literally anywhere in the world. That, for me is the true wonder of cyberspace. The friends and relationships I’ve forged with people that I would never encountered any other way. But most of us can say they’ve made some good friends online but what about taking things to the next level?
