SLStats determines the folks who have visited the most new sims in a rolling 30 day period as tracked by them. The system is skewed to favor the newcomer. Here is a list of the individuals showing on the top 10 list as of 1 APR 07, the number of sims they visited in 30 days, and the total number they have visited wearing the tracker:
Sara Nerd: 105 for thirty days / 1800 total
Chel Pixie: 103 for thirty days / 302 total
Siyuri Watnanabe: 73 for thirty days / 278 total
Josh Viking: 72 for thirty days / 365 total
KaySee Kawabata: 70 for thirty days / 225 total
Zoo Shinohara: 70 for thirty days / 663 total
Journey Beebe: 70 for thirty days / 165 total
Yxes Delacroix: 68 for thirty days / 405 total
Tim Deschanle: 67 for thirty days / 527 total
Andrea Rucken: 65 for thirty days / 493 total
me? as of April Fools’ day, I had 441 total visited - I don’t know how many in the last 30 days.
That list would look radically different if SLStats was tracking the total number of new sims visited, neh?

The ‘Top 10 Explorers’ list counts and displays unique sims visited in a rolling 30 day period. A sim that you haven’t been to in 30 days will fall off the list and is then eligible again to be counted. In other words, if you’re constantly on your feet and exploring you will do quite well. This is actually quite fair as it prevents someone who’s been using SLStats for months from ruling the scoreboard and not giving others the chance to catch up. By only considering the last 30 days, new members will have an even playing field after they’ve been using slstats for 30 days. There’s a sprinkle of magic that prevents people from using Jet packs, etc. to zip across the grid to game the stats.
