sic transit gloria

Posted by beladona Memorial on March 10th, 2007

On Jan 19th, I was downsized from my RL job. For the next six weeks, while I was job hunting, I lived my life in SL the way that I really wanted to — exploring, dancing, shopping, helping newcomers, chatting with friends, flirting even now and then.

At SLStats, they keep track of the new sims you visit in a rolling 30 day period. Being relatively new to SLBuzz, and having lots of time to spend in SL, I climbed rapidly into the elite group of top ten explorers — and have been at the top for a couple of weeks now.

Until today.

It was inevitable.

I started my new job on Monday, March 5th and there simply are not enough hours of the day to work, commute, and live in SL. I find that I miss SL. You see, I didn’t explore to set a record — I enjoyed the exploration, and faithfully chronicled my travels with snapshots. I didn’t even track my ascent — it was left to Tamara Kirshner to notice when I hit the top and to send me a message telling me about it.

In the weeks that I have been #1, Sara Nerd has consistently been around 100 new sims in the last 30 days. She and I are tied for the top spot at the moment; I expect to slide to #2 very quickly and from there, fall off the top ten list completely. I find that bothers me a bit! But I have read Sara’s profile, and she is a great denizen of SL — I think that she truly deserves to be at the top. I plan to add her to my contacts and watch her travels with interest and just a tinge of envy.

You have accomplished something huge just by being at the top of that list for a while. Be proud of that, Bela.

And congratulations for making it there.
