I don’t know about anyone else, but I have just about stopped using this feature on SLBuzz.

Why? because the same ads show for days, while other events with more current information can only be seen by clicking through and searching.

what is in a name?

Posted by beladona Memorial on February 2nd, 2008 (291 days ago)

There has been some conversation about how we choose what last name we are using in world — I know that I just kept scrolling down until I found one that struck me as interesting and that is how I became “Memorial”. I cannot tell you why I liked that name, I just did!

At SLNameWatcher you can see current names that are listed, find out how many people share your last name, join a group to be alerted when a desired last name is available [did you know that retired names are sometimes made available again?], or find out information on a retired names. Turns out that Memorial only has been used 115 times to date and was last available on 3JUN07 for about a half hour

welcome back, SLBuzz

Posted by beladona Memorial on November 21st, 2007 (364 days ago)

there is no doubt that the problems the community here has encountered has affected the use of the website. I have been testing things, and it would appear that the move to the new servers has indeed resolved the problems — so let’s see if the community starts to heal….

relationships

Posted by beladona Memorial on August 3rd, 2007 (474 days ago)

Last year, right around mid-August, I met a newcomer at a music show. I meet a lot of newcomers, altho I haven’t been going to Help Island, and I spend a lot of time answering questions and giving out help packages [just let me know if you want one]. He and I seemed to establish an instant rapport and we spent a lot of time together. Yes, I knew he was married in RL. But we ended up partnered in SL and for four weeks, I was very happy with him. We spent all of our time in world together. In different time zones, we sent each other snapshots constantly if we were in world and alone, showing each other what we were doing. We talked in IM/chat during the day. We talked on the phone. We emailed back and forth. It was intense — yes there was some “textual intercourse” [great phrase, thank you Sam] but it was the emotional ties, the feeling of being wanted/cherished/belonging that were so compelling. It ended badly — seems that his wife felt that an SL affair/relationship was infidelity. She came in world and made sure that I knew just how she felt. And there were a lot of problems for both of us afterwards. I have no idea how his life has gone since then — all contact was severed — and he left SL, altho his wife created an alt because we apparently share many of the same tastes in SL and she wanted to be anonymous. I can only wish them both the best. Me? I went into a RL depression/funk that I only started pulling out of in the late spring.

My experience has impacted how I relate to all men in SL. Many of the people that I meet and keep company with are married in RL. I have been in many discussion groups on the subject of SL VS RL marriages — and yes, wondered how many times his wife was there too — and I have not reached a conclusion as to whether an SL relationship is adultery or not. I have seen other SL relationship impact RL, and I have seen ones where the spouse doesn’t care what their spouse does in SL and I have seen ones where one spouse is lying to the other about the emotional and physical impact.

tracking

SLStats determines the folks who have visited the most new sims in a rolling 30 day period as tracked by them. The system is skewed to favor the newcomer. Here is a list of the individuals showing on the top 10 list as of 1 APR 07, the number of sims they visited in 30 days, and the total number they have visited wearing the tracker:

Sara Nerd: 105 for thirty days / 1800 total

missing.....

Posted by beladona Memorial on March 28th, 2007 (602 days ago)

As those of you who keep up with my RL know, I was unemployed for 46 days. During that time, I lived in world almost 24 hours a day! I became the top explorer, I was in the group of 10 with the most amount of time logged in, I took a myriad of snapshots and posted them. I truly felt as tho I was living in world!

It was a real shock to return to the RL work-a-day life that I had left behind, but as much as I love SL, no one seems willing to pay me for being an avid consumer and community member…

sic transit gloria

Posted by beladona Memorial on March 10th, 2007 (620 days ago)

On Jan 19th, I was downsized from my RL job. For the next six weeks, while I was job hunting, I lived my life in SL the way that I really wanted to — exploring, dancing, shopping, helping newcomers, chatting with friends, flirting even now and then.

At SLStats, they keep track of the new sims you visit in a rolling 30 day period. Being relatively new to SLBuzz, and having lots of time to spend in SL, I climbed rapidly into the elite group of top ten explorers — and have been at the top for a couple of weeks now.
