Mr. X moves on

Posted by Andrea Humphrey on March 24th, 2007

Weeks turn into months as my relationship with Mr. X transcends into one of comfort and trust. Our nightly discussions sometimes stretch into unfamiliar territory. As we gradually reveal our souls to each other, we find we are mutually compelled to learn more. However, during the past week Mr. X has grown slightly distant. Our conversations remain profound, but they do not fill the hours I had grown accustom to.

As I arrive at a highly anticipated concert, I find myself consumed with thoughts of Mr. X. I reflect on our recent conversations and am filled with a sense of warmth. I long to share this experience with him. As if responding to a telepathic cue, Mr. X suddenly appears about 9 meters to my left.

“Hey there!” I greet Mr. X warmly. “Where have you been hiding?”

“Just been busy. How are you?”

“I am fine. Missing our talks. What are you up to these days?”

There is a long silence. Finally, the silence is broken when he replies, “You know that Live-In Girl and I are not together anymore, right?”

My heart skips a beat. Of course I had heard the rumors but didn’t know they were fact. Live-In Girl had been around Mr. X less and less, and I hadn’t seen nor heard from her in weeks. My pulse begins to race as I inch slightly closer to him and start meandering through the audience.

“I’m sorry to hear that.” I lie. “How are you holding up?”

“Great, actually! Some incredible things have happened in the past several days. Andrea…I have met the avatar of my dreams.”

I gasp audibly and stare at the sentence that fills my screen. Could he be talking about me? Certainly he’s not so blind as to shield himself from my overly visible attempts at flirtation. Lately we have been growing closer and have become a larger part of each other’s lives.

My pulse quickens and my breathing becomes slightly unstable as I inquire, “Tell me about her.”

Mr. X is now very quick to reply. “She is amazing. She is beautiful and smart and ambitious. She might be the smartest woman I have met here in SL.” I feel myself begin to blush as he continues, “I am so comfortable with her and I enjoy the time I spend with her so much. At night when we go to bed, I cannot wait to see her the next day.”

“Wow.” I am breathless. “So does this mystery woman have a name?” My hands begin to tremble slightly, knowing this is the moment of truth.

“Dream Girl.” My heart drops in an instant. Dream Girl. That is not Andrea. Like an icy cold knife sticking out of my back, I am suddenly surprised when I realize Mr. X has found someone else, and has overlooked me entirely. He doesn’t see me as anything more than a friend! All these weeks I had been wishing, hoping and dreaming that Mr. X would become mine. I longed to spend countless evenings in his arms. I fantasized that one day I would become the object of his affections. Yet here we stood. Mr. X is finally unattached and he has chosen another.

Tears of frustration and remorse swim in my eyes. I turn away slightly, disallowing Mr. X to see the emotion in my face. As our conversation about Dream Girl continues, I decide that I am not taking this laying down. I am going to fight for Mr. X.

Wait… since when was X offered as a last name in SL?
