The misadventures of Mr. X

Posted by Andrea Humphrey on March 5th, 2007

I receive a random teleport from a newfound friend, ripping me from the comfort of my overstuffed, pristine sofa. I arrive seconds later at a strange and desolate land, where I experience the all too familiar property bounce.

Staring through the red lettering, I see my friend staring up at a tower constructed of little more than glass and lights. “Hey girl! I can see you, but I can’t get in. You have your ‘no entry’ block on.”

“Oh Crap!” She replies with exuberance, “Mr. X must have locked everyone else out. This is his house. I wanted to show it to you.”

“So this is where the mysterious Mr. X lives?” Suddenly I find that I am no longer feigning interest in my surroundings. This isn’t just another in a series of random teleports that lead to a short-term cure for boredom. This is the home of Mr. X.

My thoughts turn to his ultra-masculine physique. His broad shoulders, small waist and muscular thighs comprise a man lesser avatars would drool over. The few conversations we have shared were always pleasant, but alas his quiet demeanor has always intrigued me. And here I stand, mere inches from his haughty abode. The monstrosity stretched out before me confuses me, but I want to go in. I want to know more about the man who lives in this house. My only obstacle is the lock on his land.

“Hang on. Let me see if he’s online.” My friend becomes despondent for a moment, while I zoom my camera around to take in all I can see from my point of view.

Suddenly, Mr. X appears before me. His greeting is polite, but not as warm as I had wished for. He proceeds to unlock the land and invite me in. I follow him through the front entrance, knowing that I have crossed an invisible threshold. From this moment on, my Second Life will never be the same.

And the adventure begins…
