On May 13 & 14, 2008, hundreds of librarians and library supporters of all kinds are coming to Washington, DC, for an event like no other: National Library Legislative Day (NLLD).
NLLD is a two-day event in which people who care about libraries participate in advocacy and issue training sessions, interact with Capitol Hill insiders, and visit Congressional member offices to ask Congress to pass legislation that supports libraries.
Can’t come to Washington? Participate in Virtual Library Legislative Day! Organize a group of library supporters to phone, fax, e-mail or write a letter to their members of Congress on May 13 and 14. Get more pointers and information.
Virtual Library Legislative Day communicates the needs of libraries to Congress and increases the impact of the National Library Legislative Day in Washington, DC. Use this flier to recruit other library lovers!
Use the Find Your Officials search box at ALA’s Legislative Action Center, searching by zip code or state, at:
http://capwiz.com/ala/home
Click through the results to get to individual web pages and online contact forms for local through federal officials, from state-level and state representatives and senators to the president of the United States. Some letter text is suggested, with the option to add more. Feel free to share what libraries mean to you and your family.
Send Susan Heltemes of the ALA Washington Office an email identifying your state and containing your group list, so that we can recognize your state and group as online participants.
