of my chest
Posted by Gal Canning on May 21st, 2008
Hello everybody,
I waited a while before writting down what I want to say.
To calm down a bit, to put things into perspective first and to think about what I really want to write and to know for sure that it is worth the trouble.
And I decided I want to get it off my chest.
What is the problem you might ask?!
Well, we organized a big event. The opening of Avatarum: the Harbour.
As a special goodie we had a magic show on a big video screen.
We invited all our friends(100+), we invited all the avatars in the groups we share (3000+) and we made some big noise in SL Profiles, SL Buzz, SL Society and Second Life.com (1.500.000 +).
And quess what…22 avatars showed up on the day and time we planned the show and party.
Was it an inappropriate day….no it was a nice saturday (may 17).
Was it an inappropriate time…no 1t was 1PM (22:00 European).
Was it something done before…not to my knowledge.
The guys that did the performance never streamed on SL before.
So a unique event at a normal day and time, communicated well in advance…doesn’t get the exposure it is entitled to.
What can be the reason for that?
Has anybody a clue?
What did we do wrong?
Well I guess nobody will answer these questions either.
I keep on trying…. anybody interested in an encore?

Hi, I’ve read with attention your post. As my sl experience tells me (had a lot of business in-world), the fact for you letting 1.500.000 avatar know your event in a lot of senses, don’t mean that they are all there. I’ve used a lot the slprofiles and all others ways to announce live events too and didn’t work. The better system to do big events that works (in my case) was to build a list of permanent residents (people who goes everydays to my land, and my friends.) they make my place popular (because friends call their friends and so long), even more than me alone spamming announcements in everywhere.
All days of the weedend is very good for big events, and sometimes can happens people are too busy on SL in their own 2nd life :)
I’m a DL also and my 8 or 9 first events, was just pretty weird. I was playing to me and the host, and then finally I’ve found my listeners, now they just follow me every where I go :) I don’t have to tell them, they ask me.
Have a wonderful second life.
